My Health Story
I’m Geraldine Novy, the creator of Pinwheel Wellness LLC. I grew up in Cleveland, OH, and was very athletic from swimming AAU to a State Championship track meet to name a few sports. This contributed to my interest in being healthy. Later, I earned a degree in Industrial Design from Kent State’s Fine & Professional Arts College. My work was my joy as an International Lighting Designer. I achieved royalties for my designs and a registered U.S. Patent & Trademark for a painted finish.
Yoga
During this time, I was under stress and not eating well. I was diagnosed with IBS. I applied the Macrobiotic foods to my lifestyle. I would fast two days before flying 22 hours to Asia to avoid digestive issues. My physician recommended yoga to me. My first yoga class exposed me to guided imagery, breathing techniques and connecting mind, body and spirit. I have continued practicing yoga asana’s even today. This was the beginning of healing my gut. Thank you Dr. Bruce Cameron.
Becoming A Nurse
Decompressing from stress became a value to me. I moved to Naples, Florida as a fine Artist painting commission artwork through design centers. I participated in public art and instructed at Naples Art Association and the hospital. Soon the economy shifted, and my curiosity about health issues increased my interest to become a nurse. I became a member of the American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA). I was a part of the North Naples Hospital nursing staff, which included arts & healing at the main campus. I was honored to be a three-year nominee for “Nurse of the Year” and “Nurse Mentor of the Year”.
My Vision
I created Pinwheel Wellness LLC, The Art of Wellness Lifestyle, as a Registered Nurse and Artist. My vision was to support and educate people on how to live a healthy lifestyle. All of this evolving when I realized through lab work that I was lead toxic from my past Industrial Design profession. My hair was thinning and falling out, lack of energy, memory issues, atrophy and digestion seemed to have stopped.
My Support
I was fortunate to know Dr. David Perlmutter, a board certified neurologist and now author of many New York Best Sellers like “Grain Brain”. He replenished my health which conventional medicine failed to do at this time. This put me back on ice skates to compete individually and with an Adult Championship Synchronized Team in Tampa. Thank you Dr. David Perlmutter.
Nurse Coaching
Health Coaching is a new and evolving profession for nurses. I participated in Duke Integrative Medicine’s program to become an Integrative Health Coach. From this program, I was granted Nurse Coach-Board Certified (NC-BC). I then became a Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach (FMCHC) and CDC Diabetes Prevention Lifestyle Coach. This all lead to National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC). My desire is to coach and share my resources in Health & Wellness creatively with people, hospitals, and the community through tele-coaching, presentations and kitchen table visits.
Food Choices
My food choices today are whole, clean and organic of which some I grow in raise bed organic gardens. I remain active in art, yoga, dance, resistance training, walking/hiking and figure skating. As a creative Nurse, Health Coach, I share the knowledge with my clients and patients about evidence-based food plans from the Institute of Functional Medicine in my coaching practice. This includes understanding to decrease inflammation to build a strong immunity, stress relief, diversifying your activities, deeper sleep and maintaining your personal joy. The goal is for your entire body system to function in harmony as it is designed to function. My intention is to support your vision of health by partnering with you in positive psychology using coaching principles to enhance your well-being and longevity.
